Park: Theme Thursday
Whenever something is easily done, we often refer to it as being “a walk in the park”. Taking a walk in the park is fun and easy, and it’s often healthy for us. Unless of course, we happen to be Barefoot In The Park. This could lead to a severe outbreak of romantic sitcoms on television for the next several decades.
The word “park” is a versatile word. It can be used as a noun, a verb, or an adjective. It can also be a proper noun as in Park Overall, the actress who was born in Greeneville, Tennessee, just one town over from where I live. Incidentally, if you’ve heard Park talk, then you’ve heard me. Our accents are identical — heavy on the Southern Appalachian dialect.
While doing research for this post, (actually I just typed the word “park” into Google search) I came across another bit of information about the word “park”:
It seems that In 2009, a shopping center in China opened a car park that offered women drivers bigger-than-normal parking spaces to accommodate what it sees as their “special needs”.
Of course, those “special needs” they were referring to just happened to be the constant back-seat driving by the husbands or other males in the car.

"Thanks for the driving instructions, George. I could never have done this without your help!"
This week’s theme at Theme Thursday is “park”. Drive over and check out what all the other bloggers did with the theme, but be careful where you park. We wouldn’t want you to crash your browser.

Nicely done. Imagine naming your kid Park. It can’t be too common a name. Maybe she has a brother called Drive and a little sister named Reverse.

Haha. That’s a good one Dufe. The last name “Overall” doesn’t paint a pretty picture when they’re both used together, as in Park Over All. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near them when they drove into a parking lot.
This was lots of fun. “This could lead to a severe outbreak of romantic sitcoms on television for the next several decades.” I laughed out loud at this line!
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Austin.
Leeuna, I sure like the title of your blog… and your take on PARK is a hoot. I spend a lot of time in China, and believe me, the men drivers have “special needs” too!!

Francisca´s last blog ..Parked by the Sea
Thanks, Francisca. I actually think that most women are as good if not better drivers than men…but the men would never admit that.
amazing shot,
Yeah, I don’t know how they did that, Jingle. It looks like it would take some good driving skills. (or parking skills)
My car doors have experienced the necessity of “Special Needs” parking spaces for others. Whether or not these dings where exclusive to females, I don’t know.

Ah, yes. don’t you hate it when people slam their doors into your car? I’ve had people do that while I’m sitting in it…and they never even stopped to apologize. It almost makes you want to scream something ugly at them.
when I cruise the information highway I never park my browser. I prefer to idle by the interesting things. Of course if I need to make a pit stop that would be a whole different story.

Haha. I stop sometimes, long enough to change the oil, then I’m off again.
I’ve always enjoyed Park Overall, and love her accent — so I guess I love your accent, too. As for parking, however, I could really do with a “special needs” parking space.

Why, thank you, Frank. What a nice thing to say. I’ve always been sort of self-conscious about my accent when speaking to people from other areas. There is a stigma to having this type of accent and it’s that people tend to think we are ill-bred and less intelligent because of our dialect. It’s not at all true.
Another term I think most of us recognize is “parking.” We have a park a block away, when my hubby and I were teens, we parked at the park to “park.” Now we often go over there to walk, but not barefoot…lol. I already posted a blog this week about wishing we could go to the park right now, but it’s just too hot and the mosquitos are bad, so have to wait until it cools off. Great post, made me LOL!

Yeah, I’ve done a lot of that myself, Char. Hey, maybe that’s where Park Overall got her name.
lol. keeping my mouth shut when i am in the car with my wife…smiles. nice hit on the actress…bet you sound like my wife then…happy tt!
So, your wife is from Southern Appalachia eh? I bet she’s a great person.
wider parking spots for women? oh my. haha
I know, Betsy. Isn’t that just the most ridiculous thing ever!
That photo is fabulous! “Special needs, huh?” This post is hysterical!
Linda Medrano´s last blog ..Outfits
Yep. According to the Chinese, women are handicapped when it comes to driving and parking.
Love the visual. That’s how I park. Honestly, I can’t park at all. I have a problem with depth perception. The curb always seems to get in the way. I’d be happy if there weren’t any curbs at all or if they had assigned parking at the A & P.

I can’t parallel park worth a hoot. I never could. I use parking lots, or parking garages and walk the extra blocks whenever it’s possible.
Where do people find this stuff? Great pic and thanks for the laugh
You know, I was thinking the same thing when I found the images on Google. Surely they must be photo-shopped. I don’t think it would be possible to actually park that way. Would it?
Now if only they’d make extra large seats so those of us with special needs could park our butts! Sigh.

Bwahahahaha! I didn’t think about that. Good one Nicky.
Yeah, most men love to tell you how to drive and park. I make Hubby drive and then I fuss at him…
I’m sure your accent is awesome.
ReformingGeek´s last blog ..Guys and Dolls and 30 Years
Way to switch it up, Reffie. I hope he doesn’t park like the car in the picture though. It would be kind of hard for him to hold the car door open for you .
Nice! I was stuck on the theme this week and Googled too. I didn’t find the inspiration that you did, though. I just pulled out my old standby and wrote about having nothing to write about…a walk in the park it was NOT!
Great job with the theme!

Just Me´s last blog ..Funny How It Is
Nevertheless, I enjoyed your Thursday post. Even though it didn’t actually contain the word, park.
Bigger-than-normal parking spaces for women? That just ain’t right!
That’s what I said. It’s kind of sexist, isn’t it.
I think you’ve opened a can of worms here. LOL…..Let me see now. My wife has hit our mailbox three times. I moved it 8 feet over and now it’s safe. I think. She sideswiped a tree. Sideswiped a parked car. She can’t parallel park. She can’t back up without going forward and back 47 times to get into position. When she pulls into a parking space, she’s too close to one side or the other, and the car is cockeyed and not square in the space. Yep…..I think that just about covers it. LMAO
Matty´s last blog ..The Ball Park
Oh my gosh, that’s hilarious. You didn’t happen to be in the car at the time…um…coaching her or something, were you? Of course there are exceptions to every rule.
You sound like Park Overall?
That’s downright sexy.

Well, thanks Mike. I appreciate the compliment.
Barefoot In The Park is one of my favorites – with Robert Redford and Jane Fonda when they were so young!
Yeah, that was a great movie,Gayle.
Haha always fun coming here! Bloody back seat drivers, at least the dog doesn’t mind my parking

That’s the great thing about dogs…they never judge.
Hahahaaaa! Loved this, too funny. Hey I’ll have to check out some of the others …
Glad you enjoyed it, Marvin, and you’ll love what the others did with the theme.
Sorry I missed this one (bad week…very BAD week). Not only do I have parking photos aplenty, I even remember an actress named Park Overall, and was convinced it was a totally made-up name. Still can’t remember what I seed her in, show-wise. But I think I thought she was cute at the time. I think.
Sorry you’ve had a bad week, Skunky. Too many scamming issues?
